SEPTEMBER 5TH ARCHERY NEWS 

Top Pin Archer’s Junior Olympic Archery Development shooters have earned the following achievement pins this summer session.

Christine Morales:  Outdoor 25 Meters Gray 3 Star Pin and 30 Meters 4 Star White pin;  Victoria Hertz: 20 Meters Outdoor Purple 2 Star Pin and Indoors Black 5 Star Pin; Enoch Eyrich: earned his Outdoor 15 Meter Green 1 Star Pin; Jades Jobes: earned her 30 Meter White 4 Star pin and Indoors she earned her Gray 3 Star Pin,  White 4 Star Pin and Black 5 Star Pin; Rion May: earned his Outdoor White Pin at 30 Meters, Black Pin at 40 Meters and his Blue Pin at 50 Meters; Isabella Petersen: earned her Outdoor Purple Pin at 15 Meters; Joslyn Veneklasen: earned her Gray 3 Star Pin at 25 Meters. This program will run until the end of September when we will compete in the 3rd Quarter Mail In Tournament. New archers wishing to start the JOAD program should register before October 1, 2015.

Sportsmen Against Hunger Deer can be turned in to Western Buffalo Meat in Rapid City, S.D. (1015 St. Patrick Street; phone no 605-342-0322).  Elk can be checked in at Top Pin Archery. So far this archery season the weather has been almost too warm.

Top Pin Archer’s JOAD Club attended the Bullseye 4-H Archery fun shoot in Sturgis this past weekend.  Using the 4-H qualifying ribbon scores as the standard, the places are as follows:

AUGUST 7th NEWS 

Top Pin Archery received the results for Match 3 of the State of South Dakota’s 4-H Club mail-in scores.  Austin Groven finished 1st in the Junior Division with compound without sight and release and Weston Woodward placed 2nd in the Beginner Division with Compound without sight and release.   Top Pin youth archers are planning to attend the Bullseye 4-H tournament in Sturgis this next weekend. Young Life is planning their fund raising tournament on September 5, 2015, in Hill City.  There will be 30 3-D targets and the shoot is for archers 12 years old and older.

SHOOT FOR GOLD NEWS

Top Pin Archer’s Club and Top Pin Archery’s Shoot for Gold 3-D shoot saw 95 archers shoot in Custer State Park. A big thank you to Jim Lee the Events Co-coordinator, Bob Adams, LeRoy Anderson, Terry Arnold. Tom Hertz and Matthew May for the setup work. Only the first score turned in was the official score.

Archers from all over the United States can participate in these mail in tournament so Custer had a great showing.  In September is the 3rd Quarter Mail In so we will be trying to improve our scores.  The next 8 week session is starting this week.

JULY 9 NEWS

Top Pin Archery had six new archers complete their requirement for the NBHE card.  This card is required for big game hunting.  Thanks to the instructors, Bob Adams and Matthew May for volunteering their time.

In our J.O.A.D. 2nd quarter session 11 archers took part in the mail in tournament.  Results will be available at the end of July.

This session:

The new 8 week Junior Olympic Archery Development program will begin the week of July 21, 2015.

This past week Loyce May was blessed to be one of 12,000 seniors that took part in the National Senior Games in Minneapolis, MN. With a score of 1506 and a 5th place finish in archery, it was an amazing experience. There were athletes from 50 years of age to 102 participating in 19 different events, I would encourage anyone who has a sport to participate, and each State holds a qualifying tournament during the next two years to prepare the individual for competing.

Top Pin Archer’s Club and Top Pin Archery will hold its SHOOT FOR GOLD during the Saturday and Sunday of Gold Discovery Days.  This shoot will be down Lower French Creek Road, by Glen Erin School. Saturday shooting times will be from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and Sunday times will be from 8:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

JUNE NEWS WEEK ONE

Top Pin Archery has scheduled a Bow Hunter Education Class for June 27th, 2015, at the shop.  This class is mandatory for big game archery hunting.  There is no cost for this class as it is required by the State.  Class starts at 8:00 a.m. Please call 605-673-5880 to get registered for this class.

Northern Hills Archer’s Club is planning a 4-H 3-D shoot on June 20, 2015.  4-H members and quests are allowed to shoot.  Registration is between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. with awards at 4:00 p.m. Stakes will be set at 10, 15 and 20 yards to accommodate beginner (10 yards- up to 10 years old), junior (15 yards ages 11-13) and senior shooters (20 yards ages 14 to 18)  A fee of $10 will be charged to shoot.

J.O.A.D. archers are finishing up the first 8 week session. Awards pin are awarded by age, discipline of bows, and 15, 20, 25 and 30 meter targets distances. The following archers have completed the requirements for

ARCHERY NEWS April 22, 2015

Top Pin Archer’s NFAA league finished this past week. An awards Pot Luck will be held at Top Pin on Monday, May 4th. Shooters are asked to attend on or before 5:30 p.m.

The 4-H shooters will shoot their State Tournament in Fort Pierre, we wish them the best of luck. JOAD will begin the week of April 28th. The shop and club are preparing for the 3-D Tom May Memorial Shot in the Park during the open house weekend, May 16th and 17th.

We are tentatively planning a NBHE class for Saturday, June 27th. Anyone who is interested needs to call 605-673-5880, to register. There is no cost for this class and it is required by the state for big game archery hunting.

Top Pin JOAD Archer’s did well at Outdoor Expo this past weekend. 1st place winners were Aleah Siders, Conner Brockhouse, Gunner Prior and Morgan Helfer.  2nd place winners were Emme Schmidt; Cody Brockhouse, and Jessica Woodward finished with a 3rd place trophy.   Ashlyn Augustine and Alexis Augustine who shoot for 4-H each received a 2nd place trophy. Six archers are traveling to Sioux Falls this weekend for Midwest Sectionals.

10 yards shooter need to reach 70 points and pass the safety test. Scores obtained were, Weston Woodward 121; Kyle Groven 120; Cody Groven and Jak Wilson 76; and Ashlyn Augustine 73: 15 yard shooter who qualified were Jessica Woodward 104, Austin Groven 98, Dawson Clemetson 91, Alexis Augustine 79 and Tali Jones 71. 

ARCHERY NEWS FOR FEBRUARY 4, 2015

Top Pin J.O.A.D. Archers received the results for the 1st Quarter Mail In Tournament.  Aleah Siders finished 1st in the Female Cadet Compound division with a score of 294; Gunner Prior was in second place in the Male Bowman Basic Compound division; Loyce May was 3rd in the Senior Female Compound division; Mike Long was 5th in the Male Senior Compound division; Emme Schmidt and Jade Jobes were in the middle of the pack for Female Cadet Recurve and the Female Bowman Compound division, respectively. There were 527 archers who participated in this Mail In Tournament.  The 2nd Quarter Mail In will be in March.  Our Club has some work to do, but as always I am pleased with their accomplishments. Aleah Siders is shooting the Vegas Tournament this next week end.  February 14th we have 13 shooter shooting at the Outdoor expo in Rapid City.

We have started our 10 week NFAA 300 League.  Teams and standings will be posted next week.  So far we have one 300 game posted by Travis Wager.

This past week during 4-H Kyle Groven reached his qualifying score, which allows him to be eligible to shoot the State 4-H shoot.  The 4-H archers are also working on a test of their knowledge of archery and safety rules.  This is the second requirement for each child to obtain before they can attend the state meet.

The Custer County Mounties 4-H shooting sports archers have started their Safety and Shooting classes.  The annual State 4-H tournament is held annually in April.  To qualify to shoot at this tournament archers have to reach a set score established by 4-H and past a safety test.  There are 26 children participating in this program.  At this point we have three archers that have reached the qualification score for their age group and distance; Austin Groven, Jessica and Weston Woodward.  I am pleased with the potential of this group of children.    Also a big thanks to the 4-H Leaders Association for supporting this club with a financial gift which allowed us to purchase, arm guards, gloves and arrows.

Triston Spring was presented with a 4th place trophy from 4-H for his 121 qualifying score for the past season.  Congratulations from all of us to Triston.  This gives all the archers another goal to work for.

Top Pin Archers Club had its annual meeting for a review of the past year and election of officers. Bob Adams who was instrumental in helping Young Life hold its first 3-D tournament fundraiser, reported on the event.  It was the consensus of the group to participate in this shoot in 2015.  The new officers are as follows: James Scragg President; Mike Long Vice President, Robin Prior Secretary-Treasurer and Jim Lee Event Coordinator.
